Introduction: a first immersion for QR-cadre
On March 21, 2026, I took part as videographer and photographer in "Once Upon a Wedding", a new kind of event organised at Domaine de Sola, near Clermont-Ferrand. It was QR-cadre's very first participation in this kind of format, and the experience turned out to be as intense as it was instructive.
Unlike traditional wedding shows where vendors wait behind a booth, the idea here was to live the key moments of a full-scale wedding. It is an immersive approach that changes the experience completely, both for future couples and for the professionals involved.
The concept: much more than a wedding fair
"Once Upon a Wedding" was born from a shared reflection between professionals in the sector, led by the teams behind WAM Events, VIP Kids and MT Events. The starting point was simple: classic fairs can sometimes feel cold, with loosely qualified visitors and limited value for vendors.
The answer was to create a true immersive experience. Visitors do not just walk past booths. They actually experience key wedding moments:
- a short symbolic ceremony with celebrant advice,
- a cocktail reception with caterers, bartenders and entertainment,
- a reception room entrance with fashion walk, table decor discovery and video screening,
- a Speed Wedding session where every vendor presents themselves in just a few minutes.
Visitors could attend by registration only, which naturally filters participants and creates much better conversations. Fewer people, but far more relevant contacts. And if I had one piece of advice for future visitors, it would be this: come out of curiosity, even if your project is not fully shaped yet. That is exactly the point of this format: you come to project yourself into your future wedding, not to sign a quote on a corner of a table.

Domaine de Sola: a venue that truly delivers
Domaine de Sola is a reception venue located near Clermont-Ferrand and also accessible from Haute-Loire. Its wide spaces, preserved natural setting and elegant atmosphere make it a strong destination for weddings.
A special word for Sophie and Olivier, the venue owners. They took great care of everyone all day long: warm welcome, constant availability and attention to every detail. You can feel that the venue is run by passionate people, and that shows in the whole experience. A big thank you to them.
For this event, the diversity of the spaces made it possible to adapt every highlight: outdoor ceremony, hybrid cocktail setup, reception room for the immersive part. A real logistical and visual asset.
One important decor detail: each table had its own identity. Six different ambiences, from pastel to deep blue, from pink and orange to pure white, so visitors could project themselves into a range of styles. A clever idea that multiplies inspiration inside one single place.
The schedule of the day
The event ran as a single full session, reproducing the complete flow of a wedding day, from welcome to final prize draw. Here is the programme as experienced by visitors:
- 2:30 pm - Doors open and welcome
- 3:00 pm - Symbolic ceremony
- 4:00 pm - Cocktail, entertainment, tastings and vendor conversations
- 5:45 pm - Reception room entrance and decor discovery
- 6:00 pm - Fashion walk
- 6:30 pm - Tastings and cake presentation
- 6:45 pm - First dance
- 7:00 pm - Entertainment and exchanges with vendors
- 8:00 pm - Prize draw
The registration-based format keeps attendance under control, avoids the effect of an overcrowded fair and gives every vendor real time to talk. One key moment came at the end of the day, when the same-day edited video was screened in the room. The goal was not simply to show vendors. It was to bring visitors back into the emotion of their day and let them relive the strong moments through an epic, cinematic lens.
The same-day edit challenge: a film shot, edited and screened within the day
This is what made the experience even more intense. The goal was to shoot, photograph, edit and screen a film on the very same day. Here is how my day unfolded:
- 9 am - 4 pm: intensive shooting. From the morning, the vendors were setting up decor, staging, sound and lighting. I captured all of it while already thinking about the final cut: gestures, details, the energy of the setup, with the aim of building an emotional rise throughout the film.
- 4 pm - 5 pm: video editing. One hour to assemble, grade and deliver an epic, coherent film from several hours of footage. The ultimate test in speed and concentration.
- 5 pm - 8 pm: additional capture. I filmed content intended for the communication of the event and its vendors: images not used in the projected film, but highly valuable afterwards.
- 8 pm: film screening on the screen installed by DJ @sfsonorisation63 in the reception room.
This kind of challenge requires precision during shooting, speed in post-production and calm under pressure. But the result is worth it: seeing visitors rediscover a day they have just lived only a few hours earlier is a powerful moment.
This principle of a mini-film edited the same day is exactly what I also offer in my wedding film services for full-day and evening packages. The idea is to give the couple a short cut they can send on WhatsApp to absent relatives or project during the evening, exactly as we did here.
Meetings and conversations: the real value of the event
Beyond the photo and video work, what struck me most was the quality of the conversations. The immersive format changes the dynamic entirely: future couples see vendors in action, not behind a table. That creates a natural closeness that makes discussions easier.
I was able to talk with couples who already had concrete plans and precise questions about the visual side of their wedding. The exchanges were very different from what you often get in a classic fair, where some visitors are there just to browse.
On the vendor side, I also discovered professionals I had not met before. The morning workshop format really encourages that peer-to-peer connection: we set up together, swap tips and observe each other's methods. It is a real bonus for the local professional network.

After this first participation, here is what stands out to me:
- The immersive format works. Visitors are more engaged, more curious and conversations lead to real opportunities.
- The same-day edit builds trust fast. Showing a film edited in just a few hours proves concretely what you can do. No need for a portfolio when the proof is right there in front of everyone.
- Closeness with other vendors is an unexpected bonus. You do not just coexist at a fair, you actually collaborate during the workshop.
- Registration creates a real natural filter. Fewer people, but much richer conversations. And paradoxically, it is often by coming with no pressure that people leave with the best ideas.
Conclusion
"Once Upon a Wedding" brings a real freshness to the wedding-event landscape in Auvergne. Far from the classic fair, this immersive experience at Domaine de Sola gives future couples a concrete projection into their day, while offering vendors a much more valuable working and networking environment.
For QR-cadre, it was a first and certainly not a last. The same-day edit challenge, the quality of the exchanges and the energy of the event all confirm that this is exactly the kind of format where a wedding videographer and photographer should be.
The video created that day is available on our Instagram @qr_cadre as well as on the event account @iletait1fois1mariage.
