The essentials in 30 seconds
Looking for a wedding gift idea for the couple that stands out from the usual lists? Give them something they'll keep for life: their wedding film or photos. It's an original, useful gift that will never end up at the back of a cupboard.
I'm Mathieu Randon, wedding videographer and photographer at QR-cadre. Here's how to give this gift at the right time, alone or as a group, without spoiling the surprise.
- When: before the couple books their videographer or photographer.
- Who: the wedding party, the parents, a group of friends: everyone can chip in.
- How: a personalised wedding gift card, for a whole package or an amount.
1. Film or photos: the original wedding gift that grows in value
Most wedding gifts lose their appeal over time. A wedding keepsake does the opposite: in ten years, the couple will watch their film with their children, find a grandparent in a group photo, and hear again a speech that made them cry.
It's also a useful gift. Wedding budgets are tight, and the film or photos are among the first things couples cut back on, even though they're the only things left after the party. By giving this service, you take a big expense off their hands and give them something rare: the chance to relive the day.
2. The only gift you need to give before the wedding
This is what really sets it apart from other gift ideas: given on the wedding day, this gift would come too late. Couples usually book their photographer and videographer 6 to 18 months before the date. So slip it into one of these moments:
- The engagement: the ideal moment, before anything is booked.
- A birthday or Christmas in the year before the wedding.
- The hen or stag party: a reveal that always makes an impression, as long as the photographer or videographer isn't booked yet.
- As soon as the date is announced, if you're in the wedding party and want to get ahead.
If in doubt, ask one of the couple or a close relative discreetly: "have you found your photographer yet?" is enough, without giving anything away.
3. A gift from the wedding party to the couple (and from parents, friends…)
A gift from the wedding party to the couple often has a special place: it comes from the people closest to them, and it's prepared together. A whole film or photo package makes a perfect joint gift, just like one from the parents or grandparents.
To chip in, the simplest way is for each person to create their own gift card: the amounts add up on the couple's booking. In the "From" field, you can sign "the whole family", "all your friends" or "all of us", or leave it empty for an anonymous gift.
Gift card or online wedding fund?
A wedding group fund leaves the couple free to use the money as they wish: it's convenient, but the gift disappears into the overall budget. The gift card gives the gift a clear purpose: the memory of their day. And if a group fund already exists, you can use the money collected to give a card.
Preparing a group gift?
Create your card in a few minutes: the couple's names, a short note, a group signature, and even a hidden amount.
Create the gift card →4. Film, photos or both: what to choose for the couple?
To choose well, think about how the couple lives with their memories.
The wedding film, for those who love to relive
A wedding film brings back the gestures, the laughter, the music and the voices. At QR-cadre, it's shot in 4K, with drone footage, and delivered within 2 months by private link. Depending on the package, the couple receives a 22 to 40 minute film, the speeches recorded on wireless microphones, or three films, including a mini-film screened that same evening.
Photos, for those who love to frame
The coverage of a wedding photographer tells the story of the day in still images, including couple and group photos. Depending on the package, the couple receives more than 600, 1,000 or 2,000 selected and edited photos, in a private gallery delivered within 2 weeks.
The Duo, to keep everything
The Photo & Film Duo brings a photographer and a videographer together on the same day. It's the ideal gift when many of you are chipping in.

5. Give a whole package or an amount
The QR-cadre gift card is fully personalised: the couple's first names, a short note, the wedding date, a signature. Then you choose what to give:
- A whole package: the couple has nothing left to pay for it, and its price is guaranteed for 2 years, even if the rate goes up.
- An amount of your choice: it's deducted from the price of the package they choose.
For a more elegant gift, the "Hide the amount" option removes any price from the card. On the back, the couple discovers what they've been given: the planning video call, the big day and what they will receive.

Two guarantees reassure the people giving it: the card is valid for 2 years, and the Big Day Guarantee refunds it in full if I'm not available on the wedding date.
6. How to present this gift
The card downloads as a PDF, to print double-sided on an A4 sheet and cut out, or as an image, handy for sending on WhatsApp. A few ideas for giving it:
- slipped into an envelope with the engagement card;
- revealed at the end of the hen or stag party, in front of the whole group;
- hidden in an empty photo album, with a note: "to be filled on the big day";
- sent on the morning of their birthday, with a video from all of you.
The card's QR code opens a page that explains their gift and lets them send it to me in one click.
7. Pitfalls to avoid
- Giving it too late. On the wedding day, the photographer and videographer are already chosen.
- Giving what they already have. If they've booked a videographer, give the photos instead, or an extra such as a teaser or a second filmed date.
- Imposing a style. The couple must feel comfortable with the person who will follow them all day. The card lets them choose the package, and a first video call lets them get to know each other.
- Forgetting the date. If you know it, add it to the card: I check my availability as soon as the order comes in.
8. A keepsake for their home: the QR-cadre
A wedding film deserves better than a file forgotten on a phone. That's the idea behind the QR-cadre for newlyweds, coming soon: a photo and video frame that brings together the couple's best photos and a QR code to play their film with a simple scan. A lovely way to complete the gift on delivery day.

Frequently asked questions about wedding gifts
What original wedding gift can you give the couple?
Their wedding film or photos. It's a useful gift, one the couple would have had to pay for anyway, and the only one that grows in value over the years. Just give it before they book their videographer or photographer.
What can the wedding party give the couple?
The best man, bridesmaids and witnesses can club together to give a whole film or photo package, or an amount. Each person can create their own gift card: the amounts add up on the couple's booking, and the card can be signed "all your friends".
Gift card or wedding group fund: which to choose?
A group fund leaves the couple free to spend the money as they like. The gift card makes sure the gift becomes a keepsake: a specific package, guaranteed at its price for 2 years, and refunded in full if the wedding date isn't available.
When should you give a wedding gift card?
As early as possible, before the couple books their videographer or photographer: at the engagement, for a birthday, for Christmas or during the hen or stag party. Given on the wedding day, it would come too late to film that day.
What if the couple has already booked a videographer?
Give them what they don't have yet: the photos if they have a videographer, an extra such as a teaser or a second filmed date, or an amount they can use as they wish.
Can you hide the amount on the gift card?
Yes. With the "Hide the amount" option, no price appears on the card. On the back, the couple discovers what they've been given: the planning video call, the big day and what they will receive.
